Angela McCartneyangela mccartney, studio pilates, winchester

Angela is owner and founder of Studio Pilates. She is a fully trained STOTT PILATES Certified Level II Instructor. As a Level II Instructor, Angela teaches the full array of equipment through the advanced level. Her training includes the Injuries and Special Populations course which qualifies her to teach pre- and post-natal clients, elderly, rehabilitating, “injured” clients and other special conditions. Angela teaches group classes, Private, Semi-Private sessions and Total Barre. Angela is also a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor Trainer qualified to teach STOTT PILATES Instructor Certification courses. Angela started her STOTT PILATES training in 2002 and has been studying and practicing ever since. She is passionate and knowledgeable and brings enormous energy and enthusiasm to her teaching.

In addition to her Pilates training and teaching, Angela brings over 30 years of group fitness teaching experience to Studio Pilates. In addition to her Pilates certifications, Angela holds AFAA certifications in Group Fitness, Kickboxing, and Personal Training. She is also PiYo and CPR certified. Prior to opening Studio Pilates, Angela was the Director of Pilates Program, Group Instructor and Personal Trainer at Body Access formerly in Arlington, MA. As Program Director, Angela developed the group classes, supervised and trained the team of instructors.

Angela has always had a love and interest in fitness. She has competed in several middle-distance triathalons and holds a purple belt in Tae Kwon Do. She is a graduate of Tufts University with a BS in biology and classical studies. She was a Varsity letterman in Field Hockey and rowed crew. Angela lives in Winchester with her husband and 3 children.

Brittany Sawdon Connorsbrittany sawdon, studio pilates, winchester

Brittany (Britt) joined Angela at Studio Pilates soon after its opening, teaching and working with individuals and groups.  She started her fitness career in 2001 at Healthworks in Cambridge as an AFAA certified personal trainer and fell in love with Pilates while working there.  She sought out her first STOTT PILATES training and certification program in 2002 and eventually continued through Level II to be able to train clients on all of the equipment through the advanced level. 

Britt has also completed the Injuries and Special Populations Course and is equipped to train special conditions. While at Healthworks, Britt worked with many pre-and post-natal clients and continued to do so at Body Access, formerly in Arlington, where she became co-director of the Pilates program.  She continued to work with a wide range of clients, including those injured or rehabilitating. An avid tennis player, she designed and taught a program for tennis players and golfers while also working with elite runners on muscular balance and flexibility. Britt holds a Bachelors of Music in vocal performance and is an active singer/songwriter.  Her experience teaching voice helped her design a workshop on proper breathing techniques and continues to enhance her own Pilates practice as well as her teaching.

Kathleen Curran-Cheng kathleen curran-cheng, studio pilates, winchester

Kathleen has been teaching at Studio Pilates since July 2014. We are delighted to welcome her to our team. Kathleen is STOTT PILATES Certified in Mat and Reformer Level 1. She has also completed training in Cadillac, Chair and Barrels and has completed the Injuries and Special Populations course. Kathleen has been teaching Pilates since 2002 and has taught and trained at many local studios and clubs and has extensive experience teaching in the fitness industry. She holds a master's Degree in Cardiovascular Health and Exercise from Northeastern University and a BFA in Dance from the Boston Conservatory. In addition, Kathleen is a Certified Holistic Health Coach from the Institute for Integrated Nutrition. Kathleen strongly believes that practicing STOTT PILATES can bring positive changes to her client's bodies including strengthened abdominal and back muscles, improved alignment, increased flexibility and heightened body awareness.

When not instructing or training, Kathleen enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, cycling, reading, creative vegetarian cooking and spending time with her family.

Amy Ginsburg, Ed.D.amy ginsburg, studio pilates, winchester

Amy is a Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Instructor. She is comprehensiely trained in Pilates Mat and Equipment through the Advanced levels. She has taught Pilates for 14 years and was a Senior Pilates Instructor at InsideOut Body Therapies in Durham, NC before relocating to Winchester, MA in 2018. Amy has studied with numerous Pilates Master Teachers including Joy Puleo, Rachel Taylor Segel, Cara Reeser, Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle, Mischa (Abshire) Decker, and Deborah Matthews. In addition, the Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injuries (FAMI) workshop, offered through Kinected, a Pilates studio in NYC, in conjunction with physicians, anatomists, and physical therapists at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in NYC, deeply influenced her approach to Pilates. Inspired by the relevance of Pilates for people at all stages and circumstances of life, Amy completed the Pink Ribbon Program certification, and has developed Pilates classes especially geared to promote bone health and balance. She has worked extensively with individuals managing illness, injury, pre- and post-natal needs, and issues related to aging, as well as dancers, athletes, and people with a wide range of backgrounds, to develop strength, flexibility, breath support and body awareness.

Prior to teaching Pilates full time, Amy was Associate Professor and Director of Dance at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. When teaching Pilates, Amy draws on her substantial background in dance, Laban Movement Analysis, Ideokinesis, and functional anatomy. Amy holds a BA in Psychology from Duke University, and MA in Dance from the University of Illinois, and an EdD in Dance from Temple University. Originally from Chicago, and having lived in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and New York City, Amy has made her way up the Northeast Corridor to the Boston area, where she is delighted to be teaching at Studio Pilates. Amy brings passion, commitment, enthusiasm, and deep appreciation of the transformative power of movement to all her teaching.
